Espresso Beans for Home

For home espresso, start with Espresso Blend. Choose whole bean if you have a grinder so you can adjust the grind for your machine.

Without a grinder, select Espresso (fine) on the product page. Results still depend on your machine and dose. Keep your recipe consistent while you work out what tastes best.

Espresso Blend from Kauai Roastery is a classic Northern Italian-style espresso blend. It combines washed and naturally processed coffees for rich crema, a full body, complex flavor, and a sweet lingering finish. It is intended for espresso and cappuccino at home.

Buy whole bean when you can

Espresso is unusually sensitive to grind. Small changes can turn a fast, thin shot into one that has more body and sweetness. If you own a burr grinder, choose Whole Bean and grind immediately before brewing.

If you do not have a grinder, select Espresso (fine) on the product page. It is the right starting point. Your machine, basket, dose, and coffee age will still affect the result, so do not read a preset grind as a finished recipe.

Start simple

Use the coffee you have. Set one repeatable dose. Keep the ratio and yield consistent for a few shots. Change only one thing at a time.

If the shot runs fast and tastes sharp or weak, grind finer. If it chokes or tastes dry and harsh, grind coarser. If your machine has a pressurized basket, it may need a different grind range than an unpressurized basket.

The goal is not to chase a perfect number on the first morning. It is to learn what your machine does with a coffee that has enough sweetness and body to reward the work.

Want a darker espresso?

Pakala is Kauai Roastery’s boldest blend: a Full City roast with chocolate and cherry notes, heavy body, and light acidity. The product page specifically notes that it is great for espresso with plenty of crema.

Start with Espresso Blend when you want the most direct fit for espresso or cappuccino. Reach for Pakala when you prefer a darker, fuller cup.
